Tymoshio “Ty” Robinson is a native of Kingstree, SC where he grew up under the care of his grandmother Mamie Robinson, who, at an early age, instilled in him the value of hard-work and the importance of receiving an education. Before attending college, Ty was educated in the Williamsburg County School District and graduated from Kingstree Senior High School in May of 2017. Ty is a first-generation college graduate of Francis Marion University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science and Government. At Francis Marion, Ty also served as the 2020-2021 Student Body President. As Student Body President, Ty led initiatives surrounding diversity and inclusivity, mental health awareness, financial literacy, K-12 & Higher Education, student hunger and poverty, cultural awareness, and more. Most notably, Ty led efforts which raised the student campus minimum wage by more than 10%.
Currently, Ty is a Master of Public Administration candidate at the College of Charleston where he serves as a Residence Hall Director in the Department of Housing and Residence life in the Division of Student Affairs. Ty has experience working with public organizations and state and municipal governmental agencies, as well as experience in higher education administration in areas such as leadership and management, organizational development, crisis and conflict management, program development, community outreach, and more. After completing his MPA at the College of Charleston, Ty intends to attend Law School to complete his Juris Doctorate degree in pursuit of a career in public service and administration.
Ty, one day, aspires to be South Carolina’s First Black Governor and then hopes to run and serve as President of the United States. Ty considers himself to be a lifelong learner, and strongly believes that education is not preparation for life, but education is life itself. His favorite quote is by Justice Thurgood Marshall which reads “A man can make what he wants of himself if he truly believes that he must be ready for hard work and many, many heartbreaks.” Adding to this quote, Ty believes that if he isn’t ready for anything else life has to offer him, he is ready for hard work and many heartbreaks.
In his free time, Ty enjoys supporting small businesses and restaurants, traveling, and cooking.
